Someone here has done it before.
Recognized by the Leading Lawyers Network as a top Illinois lawyer for commercial real estate and real estate finance transactions (2007-2017), Steve also enjoys a deep familiarity with virtually all the legal complications that come with buying, running, and/or selling businesses. His credo is to “listen and respond promptly.”
Steve relishes “hearing that something can’t be done and figuring out how to do it.” Recent examples of his work include facilitating an investment group’s acquisition of two separate food-processing companies including negotiating the senior loan, mezzanine financing and inter-creditor agreements, and guiding another group’s acquisition, entitlement process, leasing and development of a mixed-use business park.
Steve works with both borrowers and lenders in negotiating and structuring real estate and business acquisitions, developments and dispositions, financing transactions, commercial, industrial and office leases, and real estate and commercial loan documents. He also structures and negotiates loan modification and workout agreements for real estate loans, loan portfolios and operating businesses for both borrowers and lenders. Steve has also been involved in successfully navigating a resolution of disputes among business partners and as a result of his legal and business experience has served as an independent expert witness in a number of lawsuits around the country.
Clients particularly benefit from the depth of understanding that Steve has gained from many years of managing companies in addition to practicing law. He is an active member of an investment company involved in the ownership and operation of a multi-parcel real estate portfolio located in various states including Texas, Illinois, Wisconsin and New Mexico. Previously, the company owned and directed operations of food and health services businesses.
Steve and his wife have two sons and are quite fond the outdoors. They recently hiked through the Patagonian region in Argentina and Chile.
Steve has a Peer Review Rating of “AV” (highest certification) by Martindale Hubbell, a leading professional directory. He also is ranked as a “Leading Lawyer” in Real Estate Law, Commercial Real Estate Law and Finance by Leading Lawyers Network.
